MindLight

Bloombox toolkit was instrumental for an anxiety-regulation game in which children learn to control their own brainwaves and find calm in the face of spookiness.

Many children world-wide suffer from anxiety, and have found conventional therapy lacking. Using our science+design framework, we have created MindLight—an anxiety-regulation game in which children learn to control their own brainwaves and find calm in the face of spookiness.


Video games have shown to be an effective way to help children's mental health, and address some of the challenges that conventional therapy often faces (e.g., stigma, cost, lack of engagement). We have used off-the-shelf health technologies to build a spooky, fun game that will allow children to practice anxiety regulation in an engaging and affordable yet deeply effective manner.

MindLight provides children with with an immersive environment game world.

MindLight uses biofeedback to turn emotions into real-time game input. This fun and accessible game design links the body, mind, and game into a training loop that feels fun while new emotional habits grow.

Playing MindLight for 5.5 hours has been proven to be as effective as 8+ weeks of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy.

The team used the Values Tension exercise to create a shared set of values to guide their work.

In 4 separate studies using rigorous randomized controlled trials, MindLight's effectiveness has been shown, even 3-6 months after children finished playing the game.

Everything we design starts with clinically proven psychological interventions and neuroscience methods. We use that as a foundation for fun, engaging play mechanics designed to ensure kids want to play them.

Not because they are good for them, but because they are fun games to enjoy.
