Ikigai-infused Technologies:
Collective Challenges and Solutions in Tech-for-Flourishing Design
CHI 2025 ON-SITE WORKSHOP
This CHI 2025 workshop addresses the growing need for digital technologies that support human flourishing, moving beyond engagement to foster eudaimonic wellbeing. While conceptual frameworks exist, practical tools for designing such technologies remain limited. By facilitating interdisciplinary collaboration, this workshop seeks to advance the emerging field at the intersection of technology, psychology, and design, providing much needed practical support for a community committed to human-centered, flourishing-focused innovation.

Background
The rise of digital technologies in our daily lives has sparked concerns about their impact on our wellbeing, and there is a growing need to develop digital technology experiences that actively support human flourishing.
Frameworks to do so often remain conceptual, and the few practical tools out there are often too specific in scope. This workshop seeks to addresses this gap by introducing the Bloombox toolkit and uniting experts to develop a shared understanding of the challenges and needs of experts who seek to design and develop technologies that foster human flourishing.
Workshop Submissions
During our one-day in-person workshop, we will exchange practical knowledge and experiences in tech-for-flourishing design, introduce the Bloombox toolkit, map the challenges of creating tech for flourishing, and work towards a shared understanding of the tools that are required to increase tech-for-flourishing-projects' chances of success and impact. The workshop will furthermore offer opportunities for interdisciplinary connection and future collaborations.
We welcome professionals with experience in wellbeing-focused digital technology projects from various disciplines, including (but not limited to) human-computer interaction, social sciences, medicine, computer science, policy development, and humanities. Participants are asked to submit a position paper to the workshop website's portal in the single-column ACM Conference Proceedings Primary Article format (max. 4 pages), reflecting on personal experiences, challenges, and innovations in the field.
Accepted papers' authors will be invited to register for the workshop. At least one author must attend the workshop and register for CHI 2025. Post-workshop engagement will continue through a dedicated Slack space.
